Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown! Update Part 2 {July 2013}

Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown! Update Part 2 {July 2013}

So if you want to get caught up on part 1 go HERE.

Here is part 2.

Bouari is a three phase program.

Phase 1: The Binge

You are allowed 2 "binge" days to start. We discussed it and decided that would be the Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend and then he would officially start on the diet on day 3 which was Tuesday, May 28th.

Those 2 binge days were great. We went out to eat and he got everything he wanted out of his system. By the end of the long weekend, he was so prepared (physically, mentally AND emotionally) to start on this new journey.

Phase 2: The Diet

From day 3 to present he has made a goal to consume 3 meals and 3 snacks a day.

This consists of 3 proteins, 3 fruits and 3 vegetables a day, pretty much in any sort of combinations, but this is what a typical day looks like:

Breakfast: 1 protein + 1 produce (1 fruit or veggie)

Snack 1: 1 produce

Lunch: 1 protein + 1 produce

Snack 2: 1 produce

Dinner: 1 protein + 1 produce

Snack 3: 1 produce

All portions should be the size of your fist.

Proteins have typically been either steak, chicken or fish.

He can have a wide variety of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. We don't do canned items as they have lots of added sodium, etc.

He's also still using Walden Farms products. If you have never tried these, they are great! Saves you a TON of calories!

And although this diet does not require ANY working out (since the majority of weight loss is what you eat), he's also been going to the boxing gym 3-4 times a week.

Bouari Products:

These are the different exclusive Bouari products that Wayne is taking.

5. Bouari Bar (Protein Replacement Bar)

Wayne's Stats:

At the peak of his weight loss in 2012 he had lost 122 lbs. (440--->318).

When he started with Bouari in May 2013 he had gained back about 43 of those pounds.

Here are the stats from that point on:

5/23/13: 361 lbs on day 0

6/7/13: 339 lbs after 10 days

6/14/13: 335 lbs after 17 days

6/20/13: 329 lbs after 23 days

Here he is on May 23rd (our 1st meeting) and June 20th (after just 23 days).

 photo Wayne06202013_zps4e309c53.jpg

6/27/13: 325 lbs after 30 days

7/8/13: 319 after 41 days

And I am proud to report as of yesterday, July 17th he weighed in at 312 lbs after 50 days on the program. He has also lost a total of 20 inches. That means this is the lowest he's been since starting this whole weight loss journey in December 2011 AND the smallest he's been in probably 8 years or so.

I'm so proud of him!! Keep up the great work honey!

Phase 3: The Maintenance

This is the final phase, but obviously we have not gotten to this part yet, so stay tuned for more updates!

Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown! Update Part 1 {May 2013}

Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown! Update Part 1 {May 2013}

So I have gotten a lot of questions lately about my Husband's newest weight loss journey and thought once again I just need to do a few blog posts that I could refer people to, just like I did before. It was so helpful and anytime anyone ever asked me any details about the diet I could just refer them to that and not have to explain it over and over again.

See my initial post HERE from February 2012.

First off, let me give you a little update first on where we've come from since then. I am once again a horrible blogger and never did any sort of follow-ups, etc.

So here we go with Update Part 1 of 2.

Wayne continued with Medshape through the summer of 2012, even though his endorsement for them stopped long before that. He continued to go in on a regular basis to meet with them one on one once a week, weigh in and go over his diet and weight loss.

Let me just tell you he had lost a total of 122 lbs from the end of December 2011 through mid-August 2012.

Then the State Fair came. Yea, let's just say it's so hard (for anyone) to deny free state fair food when it is literally being given to you by the bucket. (Sweet Martha's anyone?) He worked at the fair just about everyday (11-12 days) and was there by 9:00 a.m. every morning. LITERALLY Sweet Martha's Cookies would drop off a bucket of warm cookies at the station booth EVERY morning. And that's just one example of the various "free foods" he was given.

 photo StateFair_zps1e05e141.jpg

Also, he had not only stopped going to Medshape on a regular basis (for various reasons), but also stopped being so strict with what he ate. That was when the "fall off the wagon" began. It continued through the holiday season and, well you know how that goes with traveling and family dinners, etc.

2013

After NYE's he kept saying "I need to get back on the diet." And for weeks we played that game. He would eat really good for a week or two and then not so good for a week or two. It just seemed like there was always something that kept him from starting again and fully committing himself.

We have always been a part of a gym on and off over the years, so we decided to join Lifetime Fitness in mid-February. I wanted to tone up and lose a few pounds before my cousins wedding I was in at the beginning of April and Wayne wanted to try and work out a little bit. For him it was easier said than done with his stomach hernia. He had the hernia for 3 years and it was progressively getting more and more painful each day. He had finally become full time at his job in February and got medical insurance, so we planned on getting it fixed ASAP.

In mid-April he finally had hernia surgery. THANK GOD. It was a long time coming and we were both so excited to move on from it. He was told by the Dr. to take the next month easy and let it heal.

In mid-May he was approached by the radio station to do a different endorsement for a weight loss program through Bouari Clinic in Eden Prairie. He knew right away he wanted to do it. I went with him to his initial meeting and straight up told them that "weight loss" isn't just a physical issue, it's also a mental and emotional one and I felt that in the past he was almost "bullied" into losing weight and I didn't like that. They were so understanding and supportive, so we both immediately felt at ease and got all signed up.

He also decided to join a boxing gym after trying it just one time. He was HOOKED and I told him "whatever gets you motivated to work out, I'm all for it."

So here we were with his new opportunities and with summer just around the corner, we were very excited to get going.

Stay tuned for Part 2 on details of his new lifestyle changes and progress made.

{Not} Going Gluten Free

{Not} Going Gluten Free

I get the daily Jillian Michaels email.

Anyone else?

 photo JM_zps5e878ec1.jpeg

I love her!!

Some of the articles in the email apply to me and I read them, and some I just skim through and delete.

Yesterday's email was extremely helpful.

I was pretty clueless when it comes to what "gluten-free" truly means and why some people are "gf."

I do know what celiac disease is and that whole part of it.

THIS article gave me lots of really good points.

A few major ones that I didn't know or made me think further:

"Most people do not have to worry about gluten and should eat whole grains as part of a balanced diet."

"The average person won’t get any additional health benefits from foods with the “gf” labels and these new products may even be less healthy."

"Gluten is found in many whole-grain foods that have an array of vitamins, minerals, and fiber and are vital to a healthy diet."

"Don’t be fooled — gluten-free doesn’t automatically mean “low calorie” or “healthy.” In fact, gluten-free foods are not only more expensive, but full of extra calories and sugars to make up for taste and texture when alternative products are swapped."

Like I said before, I know what celiac disease is and know that being "gf" does wonders for those people. I also know of people who are "gf" just for the hell of it, because they think it's healthier. I'm not judging anyone. Whatever you want to do for you is great. I'm just sick of feeling guilty about NOT being "gf" and wondering if we should be. This article makes me feel a little better about it all. I don't have to constantly worry if I am making the wrong choice or not. Bottom line is I need to do what's right for my family. If we continue to eat a mostly healthy and balanced diet, and we continue to work out regularly, we will be just fine, right?

Right.

Is anyone out there gluten-free? I would love to hear your story and insight.

Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown!

Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown!
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Read post
Wayne is just over 8 weeks into his weight loss journey. He has lost about 65 lbs in that time and has really changed his eating habits and routines. I couldn't be more proud of him. I am, by default of being his wife, on this journey with him. And to tell you the truth, I wouldn't have it any other way.

No, I am not eating as strictly as he is, but I have definitely changed some of my eating habits as well. I don't buy most of the things I used to because quite frankly he can't eat most of them.  So I buy what he can eat, which at this point in the process isn't much.

With Wayne being over weight, we have been down this road many a times before with him dieting and trying so many different things to lose weight. Nothing has stuck thus far, but I think now it has. How do I know? I just do. I feel it. He has changed and I see it in him everyday how seriously he is taking this. It honestly has strengthened our relationship and we have grown closer because of it.

The last 8 weeks have been a non-stop mental, emotional and physical roller-coaster, not so much for me physically, but definitely emotionally and mentally. I often wonder if we will ever get off. At this point, today, I am doing great, but if you would have asked me last week how I was doing it might have been a different story.

Last week's weigh-in was difficult. You can read about Wayne's hiccup HERE, but I know it is worth it and it WILL be worth it down the road when I have a skinnier and more importantly HEALTHIER Husband and Father to my daughter. That's really all I want, is just for him to be healthy. I want him to be here for Hailey and see her grow into the beautiful woman I know she will be, but I also desperately want to grow old with him, too.

I know I'm selfish in that way.

Here are the basics of his diet right now:

He has to have about 5-6 proteins a day. Those are made up of 2 protein shakes a day (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening) and then 3-4 meats per day. He gets the protein shakes through MedShape Weight Loss Clinic. Read more on his blog about them.

1 meat about the size of HIS palm or 4 eggs is 1 serving of protein. We go between chicken, steak, burgers, turkey burgers, grilled chicken patties (nothing breaded) and fish.

He cannot have any carbs of any kind. So no bread or buns to go with those chicken patties or burgers...also no pasta, pizza, cereal, rice etc. Think of how many things ARE carbs or have carbs IN them. A LOT!

He can have an unlimited amount of veggies, minus carrots, beans and peas. He cannot have those because they have too many sugars in them.

Carrots have sugar? Yes, yes they do. He was crushed when he found this out, because that's a veggie that he actually LIKES eating. But we adjusted and now he eats a lot of spinach salad, broccoli and cauliflower, with some cucumbers and celery thrown in there from time to time.

He also is limited to two fruits a day, but because so many fruits contain sugar, he is very limited right now as to what he can have. He can have apples, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. All the others are pretty much ruled out.

He also cannot have any dairy which means no milk and no cheese.

The first 18 weeks of this program are VERY strict and limiting. They pay high attention to carbs and sugars. That is the most important thing in this first phase. After the first 18 weeks he can begin to add some of the restricted things back in, but for right now it's very limited and we're honestly trying not to think about that right now. Take it one day at a time right?

There is also a brand of condiments that you can get at Cub Foods called Walden Farms. They have truly been life-saving in all of this.

Photobucket

No, we are not getting anything free from Walden Farms for me talking about or posting about this, but they have made this whole process a little easier and I suggest checking out their variety of products if you are interested in any way. If we can help anyone at any point in this process, even a little, we want to.

Wayne's favorite is the Chocolate Dip.

Photobucket

He eats this with his apples and fruit as a little treat. My favorite is the BBQ sauce. They have 4 different flavors and my favorite is the Honey BBQ. Wayne eats this with all different meats and sometimes even puts it on his veggies.

Photobucket

If you do check out the website you will see that these items are generally more expensive than other brands, but if you consider how much you are gaining (not weight, but in other ways) and are really committed to losing weight, then it is priceless. Some of the other things we have tried is the Ranch Dip, Peanut Spread, most of the salad dressings, caramel dip and chocolate syrup. They also have lots of different recipes on the site, that we haven't tried, yet, but will be utilizing when that time comes and he can start adding things back in.

As mentioned above, Wayne has started his own blog titled: "Big D's Weight Loss Beatdown!" He will write about the process from his stand-point as he is the one actually doing this. He is doing this diet through the radio station as an endorsement through Med-Shape Weight Loss Clinic. Go visit his weight loss blog, his KDWB blog or email him at BigD@kdwb.com for more information. Also, stay tuned for more updates from me as the journey continues!

Frumpy

Frumpy
Thursday, August 26, 2010
Read post
So I recently started working out again. I had taken a break, which was partly by choice and partly because I have been so busy and/or lazy lately. It's hard for me to get motivated about it, even though I REALLY want to be and I know that I more importantly NEED to be.

Being pregnant for the short time I was I put on a few pounds. Some people wouldn't think anything of it, because that is "normal", but I had also put on a few pounds even before that as well. I haven't been feeling the greatest about my appearance lately and to put it simply I've been feeling "frumpy."

I know that with my surgery about a month ago I couldn't really get back into anything for a couple weeks, even though I was dying to get back in the gym again. Now I have no more excuses and need to get my butt going.

I know it's also not just a physical thing, I know I need to eat a lot better. I am also working on that. I had started months ago in preparation for pregnancy, but then once again used the excuse of the miscarriage and the surgery and just said to myself, "well we can't try for awhile anyways, I'll start up again in a month or so."

Well, that is exactly what is wrong with my mindset. I need to stop thinking of the just right now and think of the future of my health, body and mind. To me, it's all related. When they say that physical activity can help relieve stress, etc. they are right.

I've been struggling the past 3 weeks or so with headaches. I asked my Dr about it yesterday at my post-op appointment to see if they may be related in some way to hormone levels, etc. she said they may be tension headaches and stress related. I've never experienced headaches like these in my life. She also told me that if they continue to see my regular dr.

In conclusion, you will most likely be seeing more posts like this from me that involves working out, exercising, eating better, etc. as I continue on this never-ending journey of well-being.
