Summers in Vegas

Summers in Vegas
Tuesday, October 13, 2015
Read post
Now that summer is (technically) over, this is what our first summer in Vegas looked like...

...warm HOT weather.

...SUNSHINE. Never ending sunshine.

...downpour for 10 minutes and then there's sunshine again.

...eating dinner outside.

...afternoons inside somewhere in the AC a/k/a hibernating.

...shorts, tank tops, dresses, sandals. REPEAT. The less clothing the better.

...pool time...pool time...pool time.

...sunscreen.

...swimsuits.

...sweating all.the.time. Even at night.

This will be our first winter in Vegas and it will be interesting to say the least. I know it's different for people that grew up in Vegas, but people wearing down jackets is just silly to me. Anywho, here is to more new experiences and firsts

Until next time.

A Forever Change

A Forever Change

Read post
So today my Husband is going under the knife. He is having gastric sleeve surgery. He talks about it in his blog post that you can read HERE. He will be doing more blog posts as will I continue to blog about it here. I always say I want to write more and share more and then life happens and I find myself posting when I can. I guess that has to be enough right now.

If you don't know what gastric sleeve surgery is..click HERE and read up on it and watch a short video. If you have any other questions feel free to email me: leah.danielson@gmail.com

As my Husband said in his blog post, he has struggled with weight loss and food pretty much his entire life. I can attest to his struggles over the 12+ years we have been together. I have seen him at his heaviest and I have seen him at his lightest. I have been there for the dark days where he is down on himself because nothing fits in his closet. It's been a constant roller coaster of ups and downs and nothing seems to stick or work permanently. It's a gross emotional cycle.

Well, now this HAS to stick. He doesn't have a choice anymore. WE don't have a choice anymore. I have always told him that I love him no matter his size or the number on the scale. That I just want him to be healthy. I want him to be around for the rest of my life and our kids lives. I want him to be there walking Hailey down the aisle on her wedding day and when Griffin graduates from High School. I just want him here. With us. Forever.

He is not only doing this as an endorsement for the radio station he works for, but also for himself and for us. We have talked a lot about it over the last few months since it first came up as a possibility. As he mentioned in his blog post, he originally started with another Doctor and another clinic. They pulled the plug and we thought it wasn't happening. We were ok with that. Everything happens for a reason, right? I firmly believe that. It wasn't meant to happen with the other Doctor at the other clinic. But then this popped up and made so much sense; it was like night and day from the other Doctor and clinic. I truly feel this is the right Doctor and clinic for him and us. They have been FANTASTIC and have walked him through every step of this process.

Am I scared shitless? Yes. I don't think I would be human if I wasn't. He is my Husband and best friend and the thought of going through this life without him has me in tears right now writing this. For better or worse, right?

I just want the best for my Husband and my family and if this is something he wants to do then I fully support him. So please say a little prayer for him, and for me, and our family and everyone at the clinic today. Thanks friends.

Until next time.

I'm linking up with Shay today. It's pretty easy; just follow the above prompts. I thought this was a good update to do since it covers a wide range of topics.

WHAT We're Eating this Week...

The last couple of weeks have been light. Wayne has been on his "liver lightening" diet in preparation for his surgery. I don't think I've mentioned that on here yet or written about it, but it's a pretty big part of our lives right now. I did make meatloaf (from scratch) this past weekend with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. A home cooked meal. Wayne couldn't eat it because it had sour cream and crushed crackers in it. Plus he's supposed to be eating lean proteins...not red meat right now. I had a craving for meatloaf, so that's what I made.

He's been doing a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then has a sensible dinner which is usually chicken or fish with some veggies right now. I am in need of some healthy options other than those. I have a feeling lots of pinning from Pinterest will be in my future as we embark on this lifestyle change.

WHAT I'm Reminiscing About...

This Vikings game with the Hubby almost a year ago exactly. It was such a great day for us.

WHAT I'm Loving...

All my TV shows starting, our MN Vikings winning...

This quote...

WHAT We've Been Up To...

September was a super busy month...Hailey started soccer, our friends from Minnesota came to visit...Adam, Mike and Katie, we went to the iHeartmedia Festival at the MGM Grand here in Vegas, Wayne started on his diet for his upcoming life changing surgery, and we saw Book of Mormon at the Smith Center. Lots of fun was had in September and I hope to do a Life Lately post soon with pictures.

WHAT I'm Dreading...

I can't really say I am dreading anything. Even though Wayne's surgery makes me nervous, it is not something I am dreading.

WHAT I'm Working On...

I've actually been applying to jobs which is like a full time job in itself. I had one interview last week, but didn't get the job. I'm actually pretty OK with that because I hadn't heard good things about the firm or the main attorney. So it's probably a blessing in disguise.

I have Griffin's birth story all typed out, but was waiting to get a few pictures off of Wayne's phone for the post. I feel like blogging is always two fold. I either have it written and am waiting or working on pictures or I have the pictures and need to write it all out.

WHAT I'm Excited About...

Hopefully a more low key October, although Wayne's surgery is on the 7th and we have friends coming into town that weekend and the next weekend. AND I'm supposed to be going to the Janet Jackson concert on the 9th. Woohoo!

WHAT I'm Watching/Reading...

I've been finishing up Summer TV and gearing up for Fall TV. I'm excited for some old favorites to come back and some new prospects to start. I also binge watched Younger on TV Land and LOVED it!!

WHAT I'm Listening To...

Since his new song (What Do You Mean) came out, I've reintroduced Hailey to Justin Bieber, so we've been listening to a lot of:

WHAT I'm Wearing...

Still wearing shorts/tanks here. It's still be in the high 90's or low 100's. I did buy a couple new pairs of jeans because I can't fit into my existing ones and probably won't be able to for sometime still. The stores all have winter stuff out down here in Vegas, but I'm torn as it's not like Minnesota winter at all. Am I seriously going to be wearing jeans and sweaters and closed toe shoes? It will be interesting to experience our first winter in Vegas.

WHAT I'm Doing This Weekend...

This weekend is Route 91 Country Festival, but I'm not sure we're going. We've just been running ourselves ragged this month and are in desperate need of some down time. Also with Wayne's surgery next week and friends coming into town the next couple of weekends, we might sit this one out.

WHAT I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...

I'm super nervous, but looking forward to Wayne's surgery. I know everything will be OK, I just am a worrier at heart. This will not only be a big lifestyle change for him, but our family as a whole.

Hopefully I will have a job soon. To be honest, I miss working. I miss having my own "thing." I miss that routine. I miss contributing financially to our family and having a little more freedom with money.

WHAT Else is New...

Not much else is new other than what I have mentioned in this post. I AM going to be doing a BLOG re-name with a redesign at some point. I think I have the re-name figured out, now I just need to pull the trigger on the re-design. I WILL be doing updates on life in Vegas, Griffin, Wayne's surgery and his progress and of course continue with our day to day life updates.

Let me know if there is something specific you would like me to update you about! Thanks for reading!

These are the Dr milestones that we experienced with Mini D and his journey from time of conception:

10/13/2014: LMP a/k/a last menstrual period.

12/17/2014: 9 week Dr appointment and 1st U/S. Dr confirmed there was a sweet pea growing and we heard heartbeat for the first time. Everything on track.

1/07/2015: 12 week Dr appointment. Heard heartbeat. Everything on track.

2/9/2015: 17 week Dr appointment. Heard heartbeat. Everything on track.

3/9/2015: 21 week Dr appointment and 2nd U/S. We found out baby is a BOY! All baby parts looked great and the Dr told me I was measuring about a week and a half ahead.

4/6/2015: 25 week Dr appointment. Heard heartbeat. Everything on track.

5/1/2015: 28 week (almost 29 week) Dr appointment. Completed 1 hour glucose tolerance test. Found out the next week that I passed. Yay! So happy that I didn't have to worry about the 3 hour test with moving to Vegas.

5/26/2015: 32 week Dr appointment with new Dr at our new clinic. Heard heartbeat. Everything on track.

6/9/2015: 34 week Dr appointment. Heard heartbeat. Scheduled the c-section for week 39 on July 14th. Everything on track. Dr said his head is down there.

6/23/2015: 36 week Dr appointment. Completed Group B Strep Test. Also I was checked and only about a half a finger progress had been made. Everything on track. Dr said his head is still down there.

6/30/2015: 37 week Dr appointment. Group B Strep Test came back positive, but because I am having a c-section it won't really matter unless I go into actual labor. Since I am not having a vaginal birth, my Dr didn't check me. I'm still having braxton hicks contractions, but not anymore frequently then before. Heard heartbeat. Everything on track.

7/8/2015: 38 week Dr appointment. I was checked and dilated to 1 and a 1/2. Heard heartbeat and everything is on track. Dr said his head is still down there.

7/14/2015: Griffin James was born!

Check back soon for his birth story.

I had another Dr appointment this week and everything went great. It was actually my last one before the scheduled c-section. We also had to bring Moo Moo to the vet. She had an infection in her anal gland. It was not very good timing with everything going on, but we got it figured out and she is much better.

I had another Dr appointment this week and will start going once a week now. Everything was great. We took a hospital tour and I feel SO good about our decision. We also celebrated Hailey's birthday. We went to the movie Inside Out and we all cried. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but the gist of it is that a family relocates from MINNESOTA to the west coast. Almost our exact story and it was kind of depressing. We went home afterwards and had cupcakes.

(37 weeks)

The only picture I got at 37 weeks was in my swimsuit. I was in it a lot since moving to Vegas and especially since we have a pool. My sisters came this week to help out with things and just in case I did go early. Hailey came at 38 weeks, so we tried to be prepared. Also, with it being summer, I was fortunate that they could come for about a month and stay and visit.

I had another Dr appointment and it went well. We celebrated 4th of July going to see fireworks.

UPDATE:

Maternity Clothes: Yes. All day. Everyday. And maternity swim suits.

Sleep: I wake up about every hour to pee and when I do I have to switch sides otherwise I get pains in whatever side I have been on for too long.

Best Moment of the Week: My sisters came to Vegas on Monday, June 29th. They will be here for almost four weeks.

Want List {September 2015}

Want List {September 2015}
Monday, August 31, 2015
Read post
I talked about wanting a new blog design HERE. I just feel like I need to change things up a bit. It's been two years since my last blog redesign. I feel like it's the equivalent to buying a new purse, you need to change up your look every once in awhile. It puts a little more pep in your step. Nothing expensive or extravagant, just something simple, but new.

Speaking of new purses. I am going to try and sell some of my older COACH purses. We'll see how that goes. I'm not sure exactly how to do it, but I need to. Do apps like POSHMARK really work or is EBAY better? I have way too many that I don't use and would love to give them new homes.

I have my eye on a couple new purses from JustFab, but have been hesitating on biting the bullet. Again, something new, nothing expensive, just new. I want the BROOKS in Cobalt and the ZACHARY in white.

I also want THESE boots from JustFab. I think they would be a great addition to my winter wardrobe. Even though winter in Vegas is completely different than winter in Minnesota, I love the color and detail.

Wayne recently took over our home laptop for work purposes. Which is a good thing, because now he can work from home which is super exciting. BUT now I feel myself having to sit at our desktop computer for everything which isn't always possible or comfortable for long periods of time. First world problems I tell you.  I miss being able to sit in the rocking chair or on the couch or in bed and having that flexibility. I have my eye on THIS one. It's nothing special or huge. Just a very basic PC. For what I use it for I think it would be just fine. And it's pink and girly.

I need a new wallet and have had my eye on a Michael Kors wallet for quite sometime. I like THIS one in Chili. I've had the same Coach wallet since high school and it's starting to fall apart. I would like to find a nice one to replace it.

I want a good pair of cowboy boots. I have wanted a pair for awhile, but they can be expensive. There is a country festival coming to Vegas in October and I would love to get a pair before then, but we'll see. I really like these. Brown and simple with a little bit of detail.

That's all for now friends. Anything you've been wanting lately?

Happy Friday! These are things that I have been loving this week.

CD/MUSIC

The Fifth Harmony album called Reflection. This is the girl group equivalent to One Direction. They were all found by Simon Cowell on X-Factor. They are all lovely girls. I have had a chance to meet them a couple times. This album is awesome. Every song on it is really great. It has been my go to in the car lately and Hailey loves them and the music, too.

CLOTHING

I love these Danskin knit shorts from Walmart. They were $3 each (on sale) at our Walmart by our house. That is where I do the majority of our shopping. I first got two pairs and then went back a couple days later and got three more all in different colors. They are the MOST comfortable shorts ever. And so cheap. I love Walmart for that reason and I have been living in these shorts daily for a couple weeks. Also, I am hoping to get back to a workout schedule soon now that I have been cleared by the DR and I found out with the move that I don't have or fit into many of my workout shorts.

YOUTUBE VIDEO

I know I'm late, but I LOVE this video. I loved JB's first Carly Rae Jepsen (Call Me Maybe) video with Selena Gomez (too soon?) and I love this one too. I must admit that I am looking forward to JB's new music.

SNACK

Nutty Bars. I have been overly obsessed with these lately and I find my late night or middle of the night snacking has gotten ridiculous. But I just can't help it. They are delicious.

 BEAUTY PRODUCT

I try and limit my beauty products to no more than one new product a week. Sometimes depending on the budget I do one per pay period. If I don't set ground rules I can really go overboard.

That's all I got this week! I have a busy weekend planned with lots of fun things. What are you up to this weekend?

Summer TV {2015}

Summer TV {2015}

So in addition to THIS post about summer TV that I have been watching, you can also add all of these shows to the mix. A lot of these different shows are a product of me being up in the middle of the night with my newborn.

On A&E I have been watching Donnie Loves Jenny, The Wahlburgers and Lachey's Bar.

I have to admit I have always loved Jenny McCarthy and who doesn't love Donnie and NKOTB? I also love the Wahlbergs and have been a fan of their show since the beginning. I love their Mom, Alma. She's a hoot. Both shows are easy and quick to watch. I have to admit that Lachey's Bar is boring. I wanted to like it, but I find myself tuning out or doing other things.

On E! I have been watching Hollywood Cycle, I am Cait, and Stewarts and Hamiltons. Although as the same with Lachey's Bar, I have been tuning out of Stewarts and Hamiltons and don't know if I will continue to watch it.

Wayne and I got caught up on Chrisley Knows Best which is on USA. We absolutely LOVE that show and Todd Chrisley is just HILARIOUS.

I have also seen all of season 1 of Lip Sync Battle on SPIKE. It's fun to see another side of the stars that are on the show.

I recently became acquainted with 'Don't Be Tardy' on Bravo. Kim (Zolciak now Biermann) is originally from the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Can you beleive I have never seen ONE episode of any of the Real Housewives shows? Well I caught a glimpse of the last season of 'Don't Be Tardy' and was hooked on Kim's antics. I just like how she keeps it real and loves her kids. I watched all of S3 and S4 just started on the 16th.

The latest season of Marriage Boot Camp just wrapped up. I missed a few episodes of the show, but now it's done. Also Kendra on Top just started another new season.

Another show that just started that Wayne and I are excited about is Fear the Walking Dead. If you know me, you know I love The Walking Dead and all things Daryl Dixon. I am excited to start this new show and see how it all started.

I'm excited for fall TV to start. The only new show I know for sure I am watching is Chicago Med, which is a spin-off from Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. The other ones that I have my eye on are Wicked City on ABC starring Ed Westwick and Blood and Oil on NBC starring Chace Crawford. Gossip Girl anyone? If you want to take a look at the fall premiere calendar go HERE.

That's it for now Hope ya'll are having a great week!

Hey hey!

It's #HashtagHumpday and I'm linking up with Laura and Lauren for the first time. Obviously since this is volume 1.

#Hashtaghumpday @ Genuinely Lauren

Basically you update your life and add hashtags at the end. I love a good and WAY too long hashtag.

So here we go.

I want to rename and redesign my blog. I have wanted to do it for awhile, but it just keeps getting pushed to the back burner. Plus, I can't really afford to right now with having a newborn, medical bills, and oh this whole NOT working thing. I'll probably wait for awhile until our wedding anniversary (November) or Christmas and then have it be something on my WANT list. Although my WANT list is SUPER long right now.  #diapersareexpensive #notenoughmoola #iwantallthethings

Anybody else excited for fall TV to come back? I can't wait!! #iwatchwaytoomuchtv #sorrynotsorry

I went to the dentist last week and need to get some work done. #ugh This is a new dentist that we are going to  in Las Vegas. Everything they do is digital and they have TV's on the ceiling. What? #fancy

Hailey starts soccer in about a month. This is her first year and first time playing an organized sport. #soccermom We had to get her all the gear. We let her pick our her own cleats. #frozenftw

We cancelled cable, but before you say way to go. Let me just say in the same breath that we signed up for DirectTV instead. #wehaveproblems The main reason is that we love the NFL and with growing up in the mid-west, one of our favorite things to do on a Sunday is turn on football, especially the Vikings, and just chill on Sundays. #beinglazyrules It's going to be weird with no snow on the ground, but I think we'll manage. #vegaslife

And that's all I have today because basically I have a newborn that gets up 2+ times a night. #moresleepplease #mombiezombie

Now go link up and #hashtag the Schmidt out of your blog post!

I had another Dr appointment this week and it went really well. I really like my new Dr. She's easy to talk to and explains things so I actually understand them. When she tells me things, she is confident in what she says which makes me feel confident in her.

We took Hailey to the circus this week and went to an arena football game. We also started Hailey on wearing underwear through the night. We'll see how that goes.

(35 weeks)

We went and took pregnancy photos over the weekend. I will do a slideshow post of some of our favorites soon. We also went to a WWE event here in Vegas and celebrated Father's Day.

UPDATE:

Maternity Clothes: Yes.

Sleep: Just as I suspected with the 3rd trimester I am uncomfortable again sleeping and my body pillow is not helping anymore. I use regular pillows now to help. I have anywhere from 3-4 pillows. I can adjust better with them and flip from side to side easier with them than with the body pillow. I also am getting up every two hours or less to pee.

Best Moment of the Week: We did maternity/family/Hailey 4 year pics on the 20th. So fun!

Movement: Yes! Everyday all the time.

Food Craving: Fountain cokes.

Food Aversions: Sometimes I smell things that don't agree with me, but not too often.

Morning Sickness: None.

Gender: We found out on 3/9 that we are having a BOY!

Symptoms: Nothing too outrageous. Mostly just uncomfortable and tired. It's not quite an outie. I'm still wearing my right hand ring on my left hand. I feel like I am not swollen with this baby. I remember with Hailey I was so swollen and huge! I wonder if the humidity-free weather has anything to do with that.

What I miss: Being able to bend over. Not being out of breath after walking. The stairs not being such a struggle. Just being comfortable in general.

What I'm looking forward to: We set a date for our c-section. He will be here no later than July 14th! We also are taking a hospital tour next week and I am really excited for that!

I had my first Dr appointment with my new Dr at my new clinic and it went so well. She is so nice, easy to talk to and I really believe she knows her stuff. The staff was also nice and they all made me feel at ease. I go back in 2 weeks!

We went to the iHeart pool Party at Ceasers Palace over the weekend and it was a lot of standing again, but I had so much fun and wouldn't have missed it. I felt like after that night the Braxton Hicks really kicked in and got more intense.

Monday, June 1, 2015
(33 weeks)

UPDATE:

Maternity Clothes: Yes!

Sleep: I'm starting to get more and more restless and uncomfortable at night. I find myself getting uncomfortable even with my body pillow.

Best Moment of the Week: Dr appointment went very well and I'm very relieved. I also had a ton of fun at the iHeartMedia pool party.

Movement: Yes! Everyday. It's so crazy to see him really move. My whole tummy will get lopsided like it did with Hailey. Sometimes it hurts, but I think it's just because he's so low.

Food Craving: Since getting to Vegas I have wanted Starbucks. Which is weird cause I never really have craved coffee before.

Food Aversions: Sometimes I smell things that don't agree with me, but not too often.

Morning Sickness: None. Overall, I am very thankful that I have felt good thus far.

Gender: We found out on 3/9 that we are having a BOY!

Symptoms: Nothing too outrageous. Just getting bigger each week. My belly button has been flat for awhile. I have a feeling I will have an outie in no time. I took my wedding ring off, but have been wearing my right hand ring on that finger for now. It's bigger and fits better. Even though I haven't put on as much weight as I did with Hailey, I am feeling bigger, but I think it's just because of how low he is. I get such mixed reactions. Some people tell me I look like I'm ready to pop, and others tell me that I don't look that big.

What I miss: Being able to bend over. Not being out of breath so easily. Just being comfortable in general.

What I'm looking forward to: My next Dr appointment on June 9th. We picked a hospital, so now we need to pick a date for the c-section and get it on the calendar! Yay!

(30 weeks)

This is our first full week living in Las Vegas. We are getting used to the HEAT, unpacking the house, exploring the neighborhood a bit, and finding out the our go to locations for gas, groceries, etc.

We went to a music festival called Rock 'n' Rio (more to come on that). I had to stand quite a bit, which was super uncomfortable, but I made it through and sat down for a bit every once in awhile on the ground. My back started hurting from standing in one place, but I didn't want to leave! It was so fun with some new friends and we got to see Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

(31 weeks)

This is pretty much what my wardrobe consists of because of the heat...a maxi dress or shorts/tank top with sandals. P.S. It's hot here in Vegas.

I finally found a Dr. after many stressful phone calls. Yay! Now I just have to pick the hospital we want to deliver at our of our 4 options. I am excited to go tour and see our options.

UPDATE:

Maternity Clothes: Yes. And the less clothing I have on the better thanks to the Vegas heat.

Sleep: Some nights are better than others, but overall I'm sleeping well.

Best Moment of the Week: Celebrating Mother's Day with my favorites. We went to Buddy V's restaurant in the Venetian hotel on the strip. It was delicious!

I also had tons of fun at Rock 'n' Rio with the Hubby and new friends.

Movement: Yes! Everyday.

Food Craving: Nothing specific, but we have been loving having a Krispy Kreme close.

Food Aversions: Sometimes I smell things that don't agree with me, but not too often.

Morning Sickness: None. I'm still feeling pretty good even with the adjustment to the heat.

Gender: We found out on 3/9 that we are having a BOY!

Symptoms: Nothing too outrageous. Just getting bigger and definitely waddling. My belly button has been flat for awhile. I have a feeling I will have an outie in no time. I also think I will be taking my wedding ring off sooner than later. Even though I haven't put on as much weight as I did with Hailey, I am feeling bigger, but I think it's just because of how low he is. I've been told that from behind I don't look pregnant, so I guess that's one good thing, right?

What I miss: Being able to bend over. Not being out of breath after walking, especially up the stairs in our house. That's definitely been an adjustment. Just being comfortable in general.

What I'm looking forward to: Unpacking and NESTING!!! I haven't really been able to nest or buy anything thus far because of the move. It did feel REALLY good to go through stuff and PURGE, but now I get to organize and nest. Thankfully we do have a lot of the bigger stuff from Hailey, so that's good. We won't have to buy too much of the big stuff, just more smaller things. Continuing to unpack and organize the house. Exploring our new city and surroundings.

These are some of the shows on TV this summer that I have been watching so far.

Mistresses - Season 3

I have watched this show from the start and still love this show just as much. I am not sure what happened to Alyssa Milano this year, but the addition of Jennifer Esposito has been great.

This is a 10 episode show. There is not a lot of TV options during the summer, so when something special comes on or starts up, I try and tune in. I love old timey shows like Pan Em, etc, so I knew I wanted to watch this.

Of course, I am watching the Bachelorette with Kaitlyn. Even though she has been my least favorite woman to do the show, I am still watching. I don't like Nick, I don't like that she went "too far" with him and I can't stand to hear her laugh.

Wayne and I have been watching this show and are hooked. It's very different and can be frustrating at times to follow because it's so "different."  But I think that's the lure of it. It's a cross between a mystery and sci-fi.

The new season just started last night. This is one of those stupid guilty pleasures, but I love it and because my Husband watches wrestling, I got into this show. Hailey watches this with me. She LOVES Nikki Bella and has her own Diva belt now.

I know, another wrestling show. I watch this one with my Hubby, too. I actually really love this show, although Stone Cold Steve Austin WAS the host and now they have changed it up a bit as far as the host and judges, so it's different, but we still watch.

And of course I have to watch my fave show in the summer! They have different judges this year and a twist.

They basically have two teams. Stage vs. Street with these two alums, Travis and Twitch, leading the teams.

The judges this year have changed, which I have been loving so far. They added Paula and Jason Derulo, who have both guest judged in the past, but I like the dynamic so far and excited to see the rest of the season.

That's it for now. I've been watching some more things on Netflix and will continue to update on those as well.

Happy Hump Day friends!
