Mama's New Car, Who Dis?

So back in November I got a new car? Woohoo!! I didn't need a new car, but the opportunity came along and I just couldn't pass it up. This is a 2018 Ford Explorer. I am leasing this car for the first time in my life. I have a 3 year lease, so we will see how this goes. Shout out to our friends at Friendly Ford.

Introducing you to Mr. Grey....

I've now been driving it for a couple months and I love it so much. I love that I have the third row option. Obviously I had to get a VGK steering wheel cover and customized VGK plates.

First Things First

First Things First

I saw this on a few blogs I follow and always love these getting to know you things.

First thing I do in the morning:

Hailey is usually my alarm clock, so I get her from her room and she lays in bed with us for a bit while we "wake-up." I usually let the dogs out, too.

Me "waking-up" consists of laying in bed and catching up on 1) Instagram 2) FB 3)Twitter. Usually in that order. My Husband thinks I am ridiculous for being addicted to social media. I say he just doesn't get it. Ha!

First thing I do when i get home from work:

Let the dogs out of their kennel and if I'm not going anywhere else then I usually change out of my work clothes into comfies. Make dinner. Eat. Watch Tv.

First kiss:

Oh my. The first one I actually remember was in 10th grade with my first boyfriend, Jeff.
Before that I don't know.

First home:

Up until 3rd grade, my family moved just about every year. Since my Mom had me at 16, we first lived with my Grandparents in their farm house. From there we lived in Detroit Lakes (Pre-school), Alexandria (Kindergarten), Plymouth (1st Grade), Bloomington (2nd grade) and then finally Eden Prairie. My parents have lived in the same house since.

First car:

My first car was a '91 Chevrolet Blazer. It was my Dad's and then when I turned 16 (1999), he gave it to me. It was grey and an SUV. I LOVED it!

First traffic violation:

It happened shortly after I got my license. It was a speeding ticket. I was mortified. From then I didn't get another one for over 10 years!

First thing I wanted to be when i grew up:

A teacher and a Mom.

First drink of choice:

Depends on the time of day, my mood and craving. In the morning I usually get a Caramel Cooler from Caribou. Daytime is either water or if soda then I choose Coca-Cola. At night usually milk or water. Alcohol of choice is anything Reisling

First dessert of choice...

Warm chocolate chip cookies or brownies. See how they are both plural? Yes.

First restaurant of choice:

Usually I will pick Big Bowl, but lately it's been Mongos. Yummy!!

First song that comes to mind:

I would say anything Justin Timberlake, since both my Husband and I are OBSESSED with him. I don't have one song on the brain right now. I LOVE music and my favorites are always changing.

But Elvis Presley - "Can't Stop Falling In Love" is our song.

First major purchase:

Was my first car I financed after the Blazer. A 2002 Toyota Camry that I got in 2004. I loved it and had it until after Hailey was born in the fall of 2011.

First job:

Proex Portrait Studio in Eden Prairie (RIP). I started when I turned 16 and worked as a photographer and customer service. They trained me and I loved everything about it. Worked there all through HS and College until I turned 21 and got my big girl job.

First time I flew:

Teenage years. I went with my Aunt and Uncle and cousins to Florida for spring break one year. It was so fun!!

First "big girl" job:

I started as a "Case Assistant" for a big downtown Mpls law firm. I was in my last year of school and it was part of my internship. I ended up being hired on and got paid and then when I graduated paralegal school I got a promotion. I was there for 2 years, learned a ton and loved every minute of it.

What are some of your firsts?

Leave me a comment if you decide to do this fun little "Get to know Me" post.

Being "The Good Wife"

Being "The Good Wife"

Welcome to my "Blog Every Day in May Challenge" that I am participating in going on over at Jenni's Story of My Life.

Go see the list HERE for the whole month.

Day 2 for Thursday, May 2nd: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic).

I think this topic has so many people stumped, because we don't like giving our self praise or feel like we are bragging about being good at something. We don't want anyone to think we are full of ourselves.

I decided to do this 30 day blog challenge, then I wrote Day 1, posted it and only AFTER doing that and pledging I would participate for the full 31 days did I read the topic for Day 2.

Shit.

I was stumped. After thinking about what to write for a good 24 hours, I asked my Husband for some inspiration and the first thing out of his mouth was:

"You're a good Wife."

So I decided to run with it, cause I DO think I'm a good Wife. Am I the best one ever? No. But I think I am a pretty darn good one. Here are my top 5 tips for being a good Wife.

1. Respect.

You need to HAVE a good Husband in order to BE a good Wife. No one wants to do things for the other person if they don't get anything in return, right? So do things for each other. The term I always use is "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine."

Example: My Husband helps with things around the house. Like simple things. Dishes, laundry, picking up the house. He knows that the thing I loathe the most is coming home from work all day and then having to continue to do more. It's usually just Hailey and I at night and I don't want to waste my night-time with her doing chores. Is it scrubbing the toilets and cleaning the house from top to bottom? No. But I don't care. It's the little things that make my day and I am so grateful for that. He helps me out in those ways and I help him out in the bedroom. Twss.

2. Be Supportive.

You might not agree with everything they do, but still try and be supportive. Just because it's not important to you, doesn't mean that it's not important to them.

Example: My Husband is REALLY into wrestling. Like the WWE wrestling you see on TV. Do I love it? No. Do I want to sit down and watch 3 hours of Monday Night Raw with him every week? Do I want to go to local wrestling shows? No and No. But that doesn't mean that HE can't. Just like he doesn't want to spend hours watching any of my silly shows (i.e. Bachelor/ette). We each are our own person and I like it that way.

3. Make the time.

That's not to say we don't do ANYTHING together either. We have our shows that we MUST watch together. No exceptions.

Example: It's changed over the years, but most recently it has been The Walking Dead or The Following or New Girl or Bob's Burgers. Find what you can watch together and make the effort. Even if we don't watch it on that night, we will sit down at some point that week and make the time.

4. Communicate & Listen.

Just talk. Have conversations about things, even if it is as simple as your day to day happenings.  Men want to be heard just as much as women do. They want to know that you are really hearing them and what they have to say.

Example: Me and my Husband are on opposite schedules. It isn't ideal, but we make the best of it. We try and take out time in our day to just catch up on stuff. We talk on the phone or text or talk at night before bed. Any way of showing the other person you are there even in the hectic times.

And last, but certainly not least,

5. "Guy" time.

Let them have it. Whatever that may be.

Example: For my Husband it is playing video games. One word of advice, don't try and change them and their "hobbies." Let them play the damn video games. This goes back to #2. With however silly I think video games are, it just doesn't matter. Does it interfere with life? No, and it makes him happy. If that's the most I have to "worry" about then I am fine with that. He's not an alcoholic or a druggie and he doesn't beat me or our child. Nuff said.

Are their any good tips you have that you have learned over the years?

My Life in 250 Words

My Life in 250 Words

I have decided to jump on the bandwagon of Jenni's "Blog every day in May Challenge" going on over on her blog Story of My Life. I usually enjoy these prompts because I often struggle with things to write about.

Go see the list HERE for the whole month.

Day 1 for Wednesday, May 1st is the story of your life in 250 words or less.

So here is mine.

I was born April 9, 1983 in Montevideo, Minnesota. I grew up on a farm until I was about 4. My parents were married when I was 6. My Mom had me at 16. We lived with my Grandparents until moving around to Detroit Lakes (Pre-school), Alexandria (Kindergarten), Plymouth (1st Grade), Bloomington (2nd grade) and finally Eden Prairie (3rd grade). My parents have lived in the same house ever since. My brother, Ross, was born when I was 8. When I was 11, my sister, Keli Jo was born. She died 3 months later from SIDS. It changed me and my family forever. I think it brought us much closer. I was 14 when my sister, Amie, was born. I was 16 when my sister, Kate, was born. I started working as a photographer at 16 for a local studio. I worked there until I got a big girl job at 20. That was also the year I met my Hubs. I knew after just a month of dating him, that he was the one for me. I was engaged at 21; married at 23. We got our first 2 pups the same year we were married. We then inherited 2 more 2 years later. I became a Mom to Hailey Jo in June 2011. I still do photography on the side. My full time job is a Paralegal and I’ve been doing that for almost 10 years. I love my family and my life. That’s me in a nutshell.

Let me know if you are participating as well.
